So for Christmas this year I am 100% broke. Plain and simple. I'm headed to Ohio to spend some quality time with my mom (who I haven't seen since Thanksgiving last year) and little sister for almost three weeks - that means 12 unpaid workdays and I need to save every penny until I leave in two weeks for Ohio. Because of my limited budget, I've been thinking very very much about projects I can make myself for Christmas gifts. In years past I've done a lot of homemade gifts - college students don't have a lot of disposable income - but even now that I'm working sort of full-time (we'll get to that in a later post I'm sure)... I am still scraping pennies. In years past I've made flower pot penholders with flower pens, homemade scented bath salts, jewelry, knit scarves, handmade cards, scrapbooks/photo albums, homemade candy, etc. This year I got some ideas off several blogs online that I'm excited to try!
One of them is these tea cup candles from http://designsponge.blogspot.com/- I've already bought some random tea cups and saucers that I love from a local estate sale but I'm waiting 'til I get to Ohio to do the project with a friend. Here is the link to the project: http://www.designspongeonline.com/2008/11/diy-project-kates-teacup-candles.html#more-13847 -I will post a pic up here after I make them!

The other idea that I like so far is also from the designsponge blog (they have amazing DIY projects - check 'em out!) and it is to take old burlap sacks (I bought three coffee ones for a dollar a piece at Thomas Hammar Coffee Shop) and use them to cover bulletin boards to make really sweet looking memo boards/inspiration boards. Here is the link: http://www.designspongeonline.com/2008/10/diy-project-mayamade-sack-hack.html#more-13101 -I think I'm going to make a couple of these for my little sister's bedroom!

Does anyone else have some neat ideas for DIY christmas gifts? Please share!
